Curtis Bay Energy is committed to demonstrating how a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy facility can use controlled combustion to reduce medical waste in a manner that is clean and safe for the communities it serves, while creating energy and reducing landfill use.
We recently installed a new filtration system that reduces mercury emissions to levels well below state and federal guidelines. Curtis Bay Energy is the only Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) processing facility in North America using Remedia emission filtration technology, which converts dioxins/furans into products of combustion - carbon dioxide and water. We have a detailed preventative maintenance program that enhances plant reliability. Our proactive approach ensures that we are operating at optimal efficiency while exceeding environmental performance standards. Based on the addition of qualified resources and strong financial backing, our team is defining the future of environmentally responsible regulated medical waste management.
Furthermore, Curtis Bay Energy is now equipped with continuous monitoring devices. These track emissions at several points along the waste-to-energy process. Continuous monitoring is not required by law, but allows Curtis Bay Energy to identify and respond to potential emissions challenges, and thus to control all emissions within permitted and environmentally acceptable parameters.
