Transportation
Curtis Bay Energy only receives medical waste shipments from transporters who are certified and permitted by the Maryland Department of the Environment. Please inquire for a complete list of these permitted transportation companies.
Because the volume and weight of waste are significantly reduced through the incineration process, Curtis Bay Energy has lower costs and generates less environmental impact related to transportation than other methods of medical waste disposal. Other methods of medical waste disposal require that nearly the same amount of waste that is shipped to a facility for processing must subsequently be hauled to a landfill or municipal waste incinerator.
Recycling
Curtis Bay Energy actively enforces paper and cardboard recycling in its own facility and has initiated a program to help hospitals segregate and recycle mercury-containing fluorescent light bulbs. Curtis Bay Energy is also working with a leader in emissions control technology to develop new equipment that will allow mercury to be recaptured and recycled for industrial use.
